The Contrast Of Homograph Of Four-word Idiom In Chinese And Japanese

The four-word idiom which is short but meaningful plays an important role both in Chinese and Japanese languages.They are often used in literary journals,news,and speeches.To really do well in Chinese or Japanese,it is important to be proficient in four-character idioms.Many four-word idioms in Japanese are imported from China.So there are many similar four-word phrases in Chinese and Japanese languages.Among them,there is one kind of idiom which is called homograph of four-word idiom.This kind of four-word idiom is difficult to discern and easy to get wrong,especially for Japanese who are learning Chinese and Chinese who are learning Japanese.Therefore,it is valuable to study the meaning and usage of Chinese and Japanese idioms.However,there are few studies on this,and there are many studies that focus only on the meaning in the dictionary.This article wants to contrast and analyze the homograph of four-word idiom between Chinese and Japanese through the dictionary and corpus.The differences of the meaning in dictionary between Chinese and Japanese will be clearly pointed out.And the usage and meaning in corpus will be analyzed.And finally the article will try to find out the rules of the inheritance of four-word idiom both in Chinese and Japanese.
