Science fiction films based on young-adult book adaptations,which are adapted from young adult fictional novels and targeting the young people market,are one sub-genre of soft science fiction movies where young protagonists are as the main characters with a dystopian sci-fi theme.They show self growth,interpersonal development process of teenagers.Based on the research of genre ontology,applying the narrative theories and the structural typology research path,the paper is trying to define and confirm the Science fiction films based on young-adult book adaptations as a sub-genre of Science fiction films.Combined with the close textual reading,the paper is also displaying the narrative strategies,narrative motif and two binary conflicts,narrative characters,narrative structures,narrative time and the spaces of the sub-genre.In the perspective of youth sub-culture study,this paper is discussing the bodies of young people as a narrative carrier to serve as a symbolic ritual resistance to the mainstream ideology and social culture.With the analysis of its commercial strategies and social-cultural functions,the paper is stressing the passive impact on the audience as an immature sub-genre,which incorporates the young people's rebellious spirit.
