In order to explore the influence of psychological resilience on depression of middle school students and the role of subjective social status, the study used a combination of horizontal and vertical surveys to investigate middle school students in China. This study mainly consists of two parts.First, the research is a horizontal study, mainly using the Mental Resilience Scale(Chinese version),the Middle School Students’ Subjective Social Status Questionnaire and the Self-reported Depression Scale,to examine the psychological resilience and subjective social status of middle school students from a horizontal perspective. The static relationship with depression, that is,whether the intermediate model of the subjective social status of middle school students between psychological resilience and depression is established. The survey used the method of convenient sampling to select the first to third students in several middle schools in Guizhou,Chengdu and Inner Mongolia.A total of 1700 questionnaires were distributed,1672 questionnaires were returned, and 1645 valid questionnaires were collected.Secondly, the second study is a longitudinal study.Using the same questionnaire and scale as Study 1,a one-semester follow-up survey of high school freshmen is conducted from a vertical perspective to further verify the subjective social status of middle school students between their psychological resilience and depression.Whether the intermediary role is still established. The survey used a convenient sampling method to select high school freshmen in several high school schools in Guizhou,Chengdu and Inner Mongolia as the follow-up survey. This study lasted for 4 months and conducted a total of 4 tests on 2018 high school freshmen. The first test was arranged at the stage of enrollment adaptation education within one week of the start of the freshman year.A total of 680 questionnaires were distributed,672 questionnaires were returned, and 648 valid questionnaires. The subsequent three tests were carried out by means of a concentrated test at intervals of 4 weeks. The data were analyzed by establishing an intermediary latent variable growth model, and the results showed that:(1)There is a significant positive correlation between psychological resilience and subjective social status.(2)Both psychological resilience and subjective social status were significantly negatively correlated with depression levels;(3)Using the method of bias correction percentile Bootstrap sampling 5000 times,it is found that the psychological resilience of middle school students can not only directly predict the level of depression in individuals, but also indirectly predict the level of depression in individuals through subjective social status. In addition,in the longitudinal tracking of Study 2,the survey found that the mediating role of the subjective social status of middle school students in their psychological resilience and depression was only partially established.(1)The subjective social status showed a linear growth in stages, which firstly declined and then stabilized, and there were obvious inter-individual differences in the subjective social status level of the freshmen when they first entered the school and the speed of change in the subsequent two stages;(2)In the influence of psychological resilience on the development trend of subjective social status,it is found that psychological resilience can only predict the initial level of subjective social status, but has no significant effect on the development speed of later changes;(3)Depression showed a linear increasing trend, and there were obvious inter-individual differences in the level of depression and the rate of development of new students at the time of enrollment;(4)Mental resilience can significantly predict the initial level of depression and the rate of change in later stages;(5)The intercept of subjective social status plays a partial intermediary role between the psychological resilience and the intercept of depression;(6)The slope of subjective social status in Phase 1 can significantly predict the slope of depression;(7)The slope of subjective social status does not mediate between the psychological resilience and the slope of depression. The results show that the higher the psychological resilience, the higher the subjective social status, and the lower the level of depression of students, which helps to promote the academic understanding of the relationship between subjective social status and depression. In addition, based on the results of this study, for the mental health education of middle school students,it is necessary to focus on improving the subjective social status of students to reduce their level of depression,so as to ensure the healthy development of middle school students’ physical and mental health.
