Analysis Of Difficulties And Coping Strategies In Escort Interpreting

This is a practice report on a Chinese-English interpretation task based on the author’s experience.The author found that the difficulties encountered in interpretation task that takes place in a casual talking environment might be more difficult than those take place in a formal setting due to the characteristic of this major and in-class teaching.Those tasks put a higher requirement on interpreters’ knowledge base and the ability to make adjustment according to different situation.The task is an escort interpreting task in a day’s trip visiting several famous tourist attractions in Chengdu for the president of the Toastmaster,Micheal Notaro,this report mainly focuses on the difficulties encountered in the interpreting task through case and analysis.The report aims to find the solution to those common problems for interpreting students.Though the case analysis of the task,the author made the following conclusions: the speakers of escort interpreting usually do not limit themselves in a certain topic or field.The interpreter has to do more preparation work before taking the interpreting task.Due to those features of liaison interpreting,the interpreter needs to be able to make adjustments according to different situation.This report puts emphasis on the preparatory work and the corresponding solutions to the common problems that interpreters might encounter.
