The translator takes The Constitution of Guizhou University as the source text to do C-E translation. The Constitution introduces the history,school-running characteristics and specific regulations of the internal affairs of Guizhou University. The English version of the Constitution can provide a way for foreign readers to know the culture and operational mechanisms of Guizhou University. The Constitution is the legal document within the University. It provides the legal basis for the University running schools independently. The translation of legal texts needs to achieve the equivalence between the translation and the source text in terms of the content and the legal effect.Functional equivalence theory attaches great importance to the responses of target readers, and it emphasizes that the translation should reproduce the source language message through the closest natural equivalent language, which conforms to the requirements of the legal translation. Therefore, the translator chooses the functional equivalence theory as the theoretical basis to guide the translation practice. In the translation report, the translator analyzes the translation methods of the legal text from lexical and syntactical aspects, under the guidance of the functional equivalence theory. The translation report highlights the analysis of difficult points in the translation process such as non-subject sentences, serial verb constructions and Chinese four-character structures.Facing these difficult points, the translator adopts different translation methods mainly including syntactic linearity, inversion, the conversion of voice and other translation methods. The translator hopes that the experience and translation methods summarized in the translation report can provide some help for other scholars and translators who will study the C-E translation of universities’ constitutions in the future.
