| With the deepening of international exchanges in the knowledge society,higher requirements have been put forward for students’ English key competencies.In order to better develop students’ English key competencies,schools at all levels actively promote the reform of English curriculum.As an important part of English curriculum system,school-based English curriculum plays an important role in cultivating students’ English key competencies.Many primary schools pay more and more attention to the development of school-based English curriculum.In order to understand the current situation of school-based curriculum development in primary schools based on the development of students’ English key competencies,this research,taking N District of Chongqing as an example,selected 30 primary schools to distribute teachers’ questionnaires,and selected three case schools to carry out teacher interviews and student questionnaires.The research analyzed the achievements and shortcomings of organizational management and resource security,curriculum objectives setting,curriculum content selection,and curriculum evaluation in developing school-based English curriculum.The study finds that:(1)Most primary schools in District N do not have an organization responsible for school-based curriculum development,and the personnel involved in curriculum development are single,lacking perfect curriculum implementation system and resources needed for curriculum development;(2)The objectives of school-based English curriculum in primary schools are clear,focusing on the development of students’ English key competencies,and attaching importance to the development of teachers’ curriculum development ability and English education of school;(3)The content of school-based English curriculum is relatively single and the curriculum system is imperfect;(4)There are obvious differences between schools in the development of students’ English key competencies and the effectiveness of English curriculum development in school with less educational resources is limited.The research suggestions are as follows:(1)Schools should establish curriculum development management organizations,improve curriculum development system,increase students,parents and related personnel outside the school;(2)Primary schools should expand the content of school-based English curriculum and improve the curriculum system according to the needs of English education development and students’ interest and demand for English curriculum;(3)Schools should rationally arrange teachers’ teaching tasks to provide more training and guidance for teachers on curriculum development;(4)Educational administrative departments and schools should work together to improve the necessary human and material resources for the implementation of school-based English curriculum development. |
