A Study On The Ancient And Modern Changes Of Modest Words

Euphemism is a common phenomenon in the application of human language.It exists widely in various cultural forms.Many experts and scholars have devoted themselves to the study of euphemism and achieved fruitful results.Modest language is a kind of euphemism,which has more Chinese characteristics than euphemism.Modest words are rooted in the soil of Chinese traditional culture,influenced by the patriarchal clan system and the system of rites and music,and born in the traditional Chinese thought of "humble oneself and respect others" since ancient times.They have been widely used in people’s life and communication since ancient times.Compared with euphemism,the study of modest words is still in the primary stage.Predecessors collected and sorted out some materials of modest words,made a preliminary classification of modest words,and tried to compile a professional dictionary of modest words,but it was still necessary to explore modest words in a more systematic and theoretical way.Based on the comparison between ancient and modern languages of modest language,this paper attempts to summarize and study the general rules of modest language changes in ancient and modern Chinese through the collation and induction of modest language materials collected in ancient and modern Chinese,so as to make the study of modest language more systematic and in-depth.In ancient Chinese,modest language has a very high frequency of use,no matter in daily verbal communication or written communication,modest language is common.The existence of modest words makes the communication between people more in line with etiquette and standardization,and it also helps us build a more harmonious communication environment as a lubricant.However,with the development of society,the Chinese language system has been constantly updated and improved,and people’s way of thinking has changed.Therefore,the types and use methods of modest words have undergone profound changes.This change is not only reflected in the vocabulary system of modest words,but also in its adaptive range,users and occasions.It not only reflects the development and change of modest language itself,but also fully shows the profound connection between Chinese traditional culture and linguistic rhetoric.Study the modest and honorific can understand modest and honorific in different development period of the basic situation,help us to grasp the development of the Chinese context,but also helps us to a deeper understanding of the ancient culture,the research on the development and changes in the traditional culture of the Chinese nation,in addition to our harmonious interpersonal relationship,create a harmonious interpersonal atmosphere also has thevery big help.After entering the modern society,modest language,as the legacy of the excellent traditional Chinese culture,has been impacted to some extent by foreign languages,network languages and other emerging language forms,but also ushered in new opportunities for development.Under the background of the new era,how to better inherit modest language and how to promote its further development are still worthy of further discussion and research.
