| Childhood is an important period for children’s physical and mental development, and children’s literature can help them understand the world indirectly.Children’s literature takes children as its readers. Its content and form should be adapted to children’s physiological and psychological characteristics. In addition, the language should be very vivid, humorous and acceptable. All of them form a unique style of children’s literature. Therefore,in the process of translation, the first eight chapters of Ready for a Scare in Creepover series of novels have been translated under the guidance of reception aesthetics. Before translation,it is necessary to understand the background of the source text and children’s literature, including definition, origin, status quo and characteristics. The significance and purpose of these steps are to better understand the source text and improve the translation quality through deep research.Reception aesthetics is used to guide the translation of children’s literature. It emphasizes that translators should start from the perspective of readers, take readers as the center and readers’ acceptance as the purpose, pay attention to readers’ expectation horizon, and reproduce the ideological content, characters and artistic conception of the original work.In the process of translation,in terms of lexical and syntactical level, this thesis has selected some suitable translation methods in line with the characteristics of children. At lexical level, the simple and distinctive words should be selected and used in order to make children understand them much easier. In terms of syntactical level,it is necessary to avoid long and difficult sentences and pay much attention to using different translation skills such as dividing, combination, negation and restructuring. The translation of children’s literature should take children’s various characteristics into consideration such as their psychology, language and aesthetics. Therefore, the flexible strategies should be used to deal with the changing circumstances. In a word, from the perspective of reception aesthetics, the status of children readers should be put in the first place. The translator should see and experience the life from a child’s perspective.Meanwhile, the translator should choose proper and flexible translation strategies. While retaining the stylistic features of the original work, the translator should use appropriate translation techniques and skills to better meet the needs of children readers. Some suggestions are put forward on how to translate children’s literature. It is better to integrate children readers’ expectation horizon with the translation to form a new expectation horizon.Only in this way can children readers’ favorite translation texts be created and the purpose and function of children’s literature translation be reflected. |
