There are mainly five ethnic minorities in Mangshi of Dehong Autonomous Prefecture of Dai and Jingpo Enthnic Groups,including the Tai,Jingpo,De’ang,Achang,and Lisu,among whom the Tai makes the largest ethnic group.Similarly,Tai students constitute about one third of the total students inNo.1 Middle School.Generally,Tai students are more introverted in school compared with Han students,which may result in their poor English achievements.In addition,Mangshi as a border city close to Myanmar its education is relatively poor,especially the teaching and learning of English And Tai students mostly have low performance and achievements in English class.In order to explore such the problem in their English learning,the author manages to investigate the current situation of English study of students’ motivation in English learning and influencing factors.The study mainly focuses on the current situation of Tai senior high students’ English learning motivation and influencing factors.The research mainly includes the following three questions.Whatis the current situation of Tai senior students’ English learning motivation? What are the influencing factors?How should we do improve their English learning motivation?The author did research among 250 students.The survey was done through class observation,questionnaire and interview.Then the author used statistics methods(spss 20.0)to measure and analyze the data.The results revealed that Tai students’ motivation for English learning is not strong.The influencing factors are as follows:(1)There is a certain degree of anxiety in the process of English learning.(2)Tai students have a low sense of English learning.(3)Parents are not positive about English learning.(4)There is less encouragement from their parents in English learning.(5)There is little English learning atmosphere in school.The author propose some measures for improving the motivation of Tai students’ English learning in the hope of making some suggestions to teachers and students who are in need.
