In 1983,the professor Howard Gardner of Harvard University proposed the theory of multiple intelligences.Professor Howard Gardner believes that everyone has at least eight intelligences.The theory of multiple intelligences emphasizes the existence of multiple intelligences from birth,and these intelligences are independent of each other.Therefore,this study is based on Gardner's multiple intelligences theory and learning strategy classification system in New English Curriculum standards,this thesis studies 117 students.The author made use of the multiple intelligences questionnaire,vocabulary learning strategy questionnaire and interviews,applied the descriptive statistics,Pearson correlation analysis,and regression analysis to explore the relationship between multiple intelligences and vocabulary learning strategies.According to the data analysis,this paper has got the following conclusions:Firstly,among the 117 students,the average of naturalist intelligence is the highest;intrapersonal,spatial,interpersonal intelligences are inferior to naturalist intelligence;logical-mathematical,musical,bodily-kinesthetic intelligences are in middle and the average of linguistic intelligence is the lowest one.Secondly,the control strategies and the resource strategies are used most frequently;memory strategies and cognitive strategies are followed;social strategies are used least.Thirdly,there was positive correlation between cognitive strategies and eight intelligences.The control strategies are positively related with seven intelligences except linguistic intelligence;social strategies are positively related with linguistic,logical mathematical,musical,spatial,intrapersonal,interpersonal intelligences;resource strategies are positively related with logical mathematical,musical,spatial,intrapersonal,interpersonal intelligences;memory strategies are positively related with seven intelligences except linguistic intelligence.The correlation has been clearly presented in the multiple regression analysis.By studying correlation between multiple intelligences and English vocabulary learning strategies,this paper provides suggestions for students to choose vocabulary learning strategies and teachers to use teaching methods according to the composition of multiple intelligences.Help teachers and students to better understand and use multiple intelligences to promote English teaching and learning.
