With the rapid development of China-Africa relations in the new era,it is particularly important to deliver China's achievements in foreign construction to the Chinese people who care about the development of the country in a timely and accurate manner. As one of China's construction projects in Africa, the E-C news translation for the Kenya Standard Gauge Railway(SGR)Project is of great practical value.Among them,a large number of metaphors, especially deliberate metaphors, have caused obstacles for translators. The translation of metaphor directly affects the readability of the translation, thus affecting the reader's understanding of the general meaning of the news.In the context of the Belt and Road Initiative, this paper combines the author's compilation practice from Kenya SGR News and usage-based theory, and analyzes corpus from linguistic level, cognitive level, cultural level and actual communicative level. To achieve this purpose, this paper combines both quantitative and qualitative research methods.Firstly, corpus research method is used and a small English Kenyan SGR news corpus is established.Secondly,PowerGREP,a versatile and powerful text processing and search tool developed and published by Just Great Software Co.Ltd.,is employed for a fuzzy search.Subsequently,Metaphor Identification Procedure Vrije Universiteit(MIPVU)is used to identify metaphors in the corpus. Then, for an authoritative and objective identification of the deliberate metaphors, deliberate metaphor identification procedure(DMIP)is used.According to Deliberation Metaphor Theory, metaphors in Kenya SGR news are divided into deliberate metaphors and nondeliberate metaphors, with special focuses on deliberate metaphor research. Finally, after analyzing the features of deliberate metaphors, this thesis puts forward four kinds of translation methods under the guidance of usage-based theory: retention, retention plus explanation, substitution and conversion. In this thesis, the theoretical perspective is usage-based theory and research object is Kenya SGR news, and all of them are relatively new.Guided by usage-based theory, this thesis studies metaphor translation in Kenya SGR news and further conducts research on deliberate metaphors. In addition, the translation methods summarized in this thesis can provide some practical guidance and help translators to tackle with encountered problems in actual translation.
