A Study On The Language Variation Of The Special Sentence Patterns In Thai Chinese Literature

Thai Chinese Literature,which is an integration of traditional culture of China and social culture of Thailand,has been rebuilt via the mixture of those two kinds of culture.The language of Thai Chinese Literature is just like a bronze mirror reflecting the regional characteristics of language variation vividly.The special sentence patterns from the corpus sources of nearly one million words of the language of Thai Chinese Literature were used as the research objects which were classified through the language analysis to illustrate the theoretical basis,features and reasons of variation in the special sentence patterns.Being different from the previous researches in the language of Thai Chinese Literature,the perspective of this paper was from cognitive social linguistics.Comparing an exemplification of modern literary language of the mainland of China created in the first half of the twentieth century,the typical special sentence patterns with obvious variation were categorized in order to reveal the generative mechanism of the masterpieces with the prepositions--"把"/"给"/"对" and other special sentence patterns in Thai Chinese Literature,furthermore,to demonstrate the cognitive change process of Thai Chinese writers.On this basis,the linguistic characteristics of special sentence patterns and the reasons for the variation,which were explored in different categories according to the specific circumstances of the variation of special sentence patterns,are mainly investigated.The thesis consists of four chapters.The introduction included several contents of purpose and significance of this research,the research status and problems of the language variation of sentences in Thai Chinese Literature works and the special sentences in the modern Chinese,the definition of the language in Thai Chinese Literature and the special sentence category,the overview of theoretical basis and research methods as well as source of the corpus sources.In Chapter One,the different semantic classification of construction of typical special sentence patterns with obvious variation was explored.According to the actual situation of variation,the classification criteria of special sentence patterns were clarified.Based on this,the variation phenomena of the special sentence patterns with the prepositions--"把"/"给"/"对" and other special sentence patterns were analyzed via a combination of the semantic classification of construction and cognitive schema.In Chapter Two,a comparative analysis between special sentence patterns in Thai Chinese Literature and Modern Chinese Literature was displayed.Firstly,the basic syntax and semantic structure of special sentence patterns in the language of Modern Chinese Literature are elaborated according to the semantic classification of construction.Secondly,with this as a reference,the practical basis of the variation of special sentence patterns in the language of Thai Chinese Literature were elucidated.In Chapter Three,based on the pervious contents,the main content was to comb the features of the variation of special sentence patterns in the language of Thai Chinese Literature.These features were mainly embodied in three parts:preposition,predicate and object.The preposition part is characterized by mixed use of prepositions;The predicate part is characterized by the use of bare-verb as predicates and transitive verbs mixed with intransitive verbs;The object part is characterized by being omitted,moved forward or repressed,at the same time,there are numerous nouns of concrete things acting as the O_d.In Chapter Four,the reasons for the variation of special sentence patterns in the language of Thai Chinese literature from both linguistic internal and external aspects were elaborated.On the one hand,from the internal aspect of linguistics,one aspect was that it was influenced by Thai grammar,such as the absence of"把"sentence,the lack of complementary structure and the existence of object ellipsis and verb conjunction.Another aspect was that it was affected by the special use of some prepositions in Chaoshan dialect,and sometimes the dominated object that was placed in front of the sentence in the actual conversation.On the other hand,from the external aspect of linguistics,firstly,from the perspective of verbal conversation,the absence of object components was caused by simplifying communicating.Secondly,from the perspective of cognitive mechanism,Taihua writers were hardly aware of the cognitive perspective that the changed importance of some special sentence patterns had varied the whole sentence.Finally,from the sociocultural perspective,the different thinking patterns and language habits had been formed by the different historical cultures among China and Thailand.
