In recent years, with the implementation of the “Belt and Road” initiative,Chinese companies have stepped out of the country and invested in foreign projects with great speed and force, presenting a magnificent picture of “going global”.Though their infrastructure constructions are promising due to the weak foundations, the countries along the Belt and Road route have quite different political structures and investment environments from those in China. Therefore, there exit both opportunities and challenges, benefits and risks in the building of China’s overseas projects. The Belt and Road Practices: Experience and Lessons of Chinese Engineering Enterprises’ Going Global introduces the key links and implementation paths for Chinese engineering enterprises to improve their management level when they are going global and analyzes 12 typical overseas projects of Chinese engineering enterprises with significant influence and representativeness, which touches upon different fields and represents an inspiration for Chinese engineering enterprises to actively participate in the construction of the “Belt and Road” initiative, firmly seize development opportunities and bravely face challenges.Furthermore, from these cases, the internal logic of the international operation of Chinese enterprises can be found,so that China can better follow the law in the process of “going global” with a more stable and further pace. The source text in this report is the Chapter 15 of the book, mainly about the first “going global” project of China’s high-speed railway engineering technology---the Turkey Ankara-Istanbul High-speed Railway. The translator translated this part from Chinese into English and took it as a material for the analysis of this report. As the book is a typically engineering text with distinctive informative and expressive functions, the practice is acted upon Newmark’s Theory of communicative translation and semantic translation, under the guidance of which the translator has employed different translation strategies to ensure a complete and accurate convey of the original information and a fulfillment of the communicative purpose expected by the source text. The report will first describe the translation material itself;then it will briefly introduce the overall translation process and post-translation quality control.Subsequently,it will focus on difficulties in the translation and put forward solutions by analyzing concrete and specific examples extracted from the translation material.Lastly,it will make a summary of the experience and deficiencies so as to pave the way for the translator to improve translation skills. This report will provide references of translating this type of texts and offer guidance on how to employ relevant translation theories and techniques to solve different problems in translation.
