Nowadays,with the rapid development of information technology,people are paying more and more attention to the hot issues around the world.Magazines become one of the main sources which bring the timely information to readers.Therefore,foreign magazine translation is both an important way for us to know about the world and an essential channel for more native people to get a quick glance at the world.As one of the most famous magazines at home and abroad,The Economist has great influence in China and around the world.To translate The Economist not only makes readers understand the information in the world,but also to know about the cultures of different countries,which plays an important role whether in the knowledge acquisition or in the language learning.The Economist has always been popular with readers for its broad perspective and unique insights.Although the content of the articles mostly involves political,economic and other professional fields,it does not lose the flexible usage of various rhetorics.It is not easy to deal with them in translation.Therefore,the thesis takes The Economist articles from September 2018 as the translation practice,and then selects rhetorical devices with highly frequently used for case study,including metaphor,personification,metonymy,parallelism and rhyme.Under the guidance of Skopos theory,the following three translation strategies are summarized:to keep(the original rhetorical expression and adopt the literal translation),transform(the rhetorical device in the source text into the target text in a native language-friendly way)and abandon(the original rhetorical form and effect in the target language and use free translation).And literal translation,free translation,addition,reduction,word formation and other translation skills are used according to the context.This thesis aims to find out the problems and difficulties in the translation of rhetoric in magazine texts by analyzing the translation of the five rhetorics mentioned above under the guidance of Skopos theory,so as to master different translation methods.Combined with the translation strategies and skills,the author tries to improve the translation quality to give readers better reading experience,and provide different ideas and references for the translation of rhetorics in the magazine text.
