| This is a translation report on the E-C translation of the sixth chapter “Fiscal and Monetary Regimes” of the book named The Cambridge Economic History of Latin America.The text is part of a book series which is titled “Latin America and Caribbean Research Think Tanks” set up by Southwest University of Science and Technology(SWUST).The translation of the project will contribute to the mutual understanding of China and Latin America and promote the sustainable development of China-Latin America relations as well as achieve mutual benefit and win-win results by learning from each other’s experience.Under the guidance of the theory of functional equivalence,the author tries to make the target text suit readers’ communicative habits.In this report,the author analyzes the application of the theory of functional equivalence from lexical,syntactic and textual levels.The author summarizes the translation method of economic terminologies and local words as well as the application of four-character words.In terms of syntactic level,the author adopts translation techniques like conversion,amplification,division,and combination to solve the difference between Chinese and English.In the textual level,the cohesion and coherence are achieved by figuring out the inner logic and adding transitional words.According to the report,translators should have a sense of responsibility,which can be a spirit urging them to make adequate pre-translation preparations for the fields they do not know,consult relevant materials for economic and historical translation,and grasp the facts of events to avoid mistranslation as well as choose the appropriate translation methods to ensure the accuracy and fluency of the translation.What’s more,the author hopes this translation project can provide reference materials for those who want to study the Latin American economy. |
