Amy Tan(1952—)is a well-known Chinese American female writer whose works have been well received by Chinese and American scholars. From the perspective of "fragmentation",the thesis analyzes the feature of fragmentation of The Kitchen God's Wife and The Bonesetter's Daughter from the three aspects:the narrative time, the narrative focalization and the narrative structure. This thesis finds out that the fragmentation narrative is properly applied in Amy Tan's two novels,The Kitchen God's Wife and The Bonesetter's Daughter. The use of fragmentation narrative adds a unique aesthetic tension to the novels. The two novels break the linear order of time, focus on different characters from different angles, and finally form fragmented structures. The thesis finds that Amy Tan's two novels are fragmentary, which manifests as the disordered time order, decentralized focalization and unique structures. But fragmentation is only the presentation, and the real meaning of fragmentation is to construct the whole. The author uses the fragmentation narrative to reflect the world through the fragments, and to show the process of self-construction of the characters in the fragmented world. The meaning of this paper is to analyze the features of fragmentation narrative in Amy Tan's novels, and to explore the significance of fragmentation narrative in order to provide a new perspective for the studies of Amy Tan's novels.
