Junior high school students' English learning motivation and learning engagement have a great influence on their English learning scores.Learning motivation refers to the motivation that can promote and encourage students to learn consciously,and enable students to generate interest in English learning,and recognize the value and meaning of English learning.Learning engagement is a necessary condition for effective learning.The degree and depth of learning engagement directly influence the efficiency of English learning and the quality of English teaching.Learning motivation and learning engagement are usually ignored by teachers and learners.However,the junior high students are the group that needs more attention.The author found that there was a lack for correlation among English learning motivation,learning engagement and academic achievements according to the relevant research.The author selected rural junior high school students as the research object of questionnaires and interviews.And this research mainly answers the following three questions:(1)What is current condition of rural junior high school students' English leaning motivation,learning engagement and English achievement?(2)What is the correlation among the rural junior high students' English learning motivation,learning engagement and their academic achievements?(3)What are the main factors affecting the rural junior high school students' learning motivation and learning engagement in learning English?According to the research,it was found that: first,rural junior high schools students' English learning motivation,learning engagement was low.And students who had less English learning motivation had less learning engagement and low English scores.Second,there was a positive correlation among English learning motivation,learning engagement and academic achievements respectively.Students with higher motivation to learn English would also increase their learning engagement in English and have higher academic achievements.Third,according to the interviews,there were main factors that influence English learning motivation and engagement.From the objective aspects,there were four main factors such as teachers,parents,peers and learning environment.From a subjective perspective,self-efficacy,learning foundation,learning interest and learning pressure were main factors.And then inorder to improve English achievement of rural junior high school students,the corresponding strategies were purposed.From an objective point of view: teachers,parents,and peers need to make more efforts,and the learning atmosphere needs to be improved.From a subjective point of view: in order to improve their academic achievements,English learning motivation and learning engagement,students should make their efforts to learn English,have a great attitude,increase the learning interest,and have appropriate pressure.Through these methods,rural junior high school students could have great English learning skills and English scores.
