The study of reading style has always been an important topic in the field of reading psychology.Through eye-tracking technology, this study took college students as participants and asked participants to read two multiple-topic expository texts guided by a summary and a verification tasks.Experiment 1 investigated the reading style change of the reader under different task instructions and their awareness of such style change; In experiment 2,the participants were divided into readers with high and low working memory capacity, and the influence of working memory capacity on text processing of readers with different reading styles was investigated when reading under different task instructions. The results of the study show that,(1)according to the cluster analysis, four reading styles appeared under the summary task: topic structure processors, fast linear readers, slow linear readers and non-selective reviewer, while only the latter three reading styles appeared under the verification task;(2)When readers read under different task instructions, their reading styles will change, and they can be aware of the change of such styles;(3)the working memory capacity affects the text processing performance of readers with different reading styles under the summary task.Topic structure processors and fast linear readers with high working memory capacity had higher summary performance than those of readers with low working memory capacity; However, there was no difference in the summary performance between slow linear readers and non-selective reviewers with high and low working memory capacity.
