William David Ross(1877-1971)is a well-known British philosopher and a representative of Deontological Intuitionism,He is famous for his outstanding achievements in the field of Ethics. His two works in the field of Ethics,“The Right and The Good”(1930)and “The Basis of Ethics”(1939),which collected all his Ethical thoughts, are important works in the field of Ethics in the 20 th century.Ross's thought of “Good” was embodied in the book “The Right and The Good”,and “The Basis of Ethics” is a revision and supplement to his “Good”thought. This article is based on “The Right and The Good” as the main reference.Ross's “Good” thounght is based on the theoretical background of his Deontological Intuitionism. The current academic circles have few studies about Ross's thought, which has great theoretical value in terms of making up for the lack of current research,it is helpful to improve the current “Good” theoretical system.Ross's “Good” thought insists on pluralism, and his Intuitionistic views run through it,which reflects the uniqueness of Ross's “Good” thought. His interpretation of “Good”in morality provides us with reference in terms of behavior norms.According to the degree of theoretical relevance,Ross's “Good” thought mainly comes from the related theories of Moore,Kant,Aristotle and Perry. To a large extent,he absorbed Moore's Ideal Utilitarianism, inherited the tradition of Intuitionism and critical monism of Hedonism. He cited Moore's views, corrected Pritchard's extreme Deontological Intuitionism, and reconciled the contradiction between them.He also explores how to achieve “Good” from Kant's “Good Will”.describes the “intrinsic Good” in combination with Aristotle's “Good”,and refutes perry's axiology of interest that “Good” is a kind of nature but not relationship. From the perspective of different application methods of “Good”,Ross comprehensively expounds the meaning of “Good”,and divides “Good” into instrumental good, constructive good, intrinsic good and the ultimate good.He thinks that the most important thing is intrinsic good, there are many things(virtue, knowledge, happiness, and thedistribution of happiness to the virtuous)that are good in themselves. And the moral good is a special kind of good that is different from the intrinsic good, the moral good means virtuous. The “ Good ” in his words represents a kind of nature with consequence attribute, and its objectivity also determines that “Good” is the correct way to express the intrinsic value. The study of Ross's “Good” thought has unique value.Ross's “Good” is a moral concept that can be described. We should adhere to the objectivity and practicality of“Good”.Only when the “Good” is linked with social practice can it have practical significance and guide us to achieve the “Good” in behavior.
