Nowadays,the environmental pollution and climate change have become more and more serious,which is not only related to the well-being of the global people,but also to the survival of our future generations.This translation material is selected from the third chapter of the book Paying for Pollution: Why a Carbon Tax Is Good for America,Why Do Economists Like a Carbon Tax.The selected chapter illustrates the benefits of carbon tax to society and individuals,combining with a lawsuit and a chart.This translation activity helps to introduce the knowledge about “carbon tax” to Chinese readers.This thesis consists of task introduction,translation process description,case analysis and summary.The first part introduces the source of the translation material,the background of the book’s author,the gist and style of the book,and the significance of this translation practice in environmental protection and its influence on the translator.The second part includes the preparation before translation,difficulties in translation and revision after translation.The third part is the core of this report.Translation difficulties and key points are analyzed from three levels of vocabulary,syntax and discourse,and proper translation techniques are applied in each case such as word formation,conversion of passive voice,flexible handling of attributive clauses,adjustment of sentence order and so on.The fourth part is a summary of this translation activity.After this translation practice,the author has a deep feeling that translation is a complex and professional activity.With improvement in translation skills to some extent,the author also knows her shortcoming clearly through this practice.In the future,the author will keep reading English and Chinese books to lay a solid bilingual foundation.In addition,the author will practice more in translation for the accumulation of experience so as to be a qualified translator.
