Japanese film master Akira Kurosawa is one of the greatest film directors of the 20 th century.Akira Kurosawa has a precise control over the expression of the narrative,and he does not limit himself with a fixed style.The conception of the film works starts from the philosophical concept,and the theme of the film focuses on the exploration of human nature and the transmission of the humanitarian spirit.Akira Kurosawa often tells the story to the audience in a flexible and unique way based on the specific narrative mode of the film.Akira Kurosawa gives full play to the advantages of lens language such as color and composition in his works,presenting a gorgeous and vivid visual image for the audience.He makes bold innovations in the structure of the film,breaks through the classical narrative mode,and constructs the film framework with the structure of non-linear narrative,combinatorial narrative and so on.Akira Kurosawa’s classic works bring inspiration to the world’s filmmakers.They combine their own director’s ideas with Akira Kurosawa’s creative ideas and style features to produce excellent films.This paper chooses the film works of Akira Kurosawa as the research subject,and analyzes the artistic value of Akira Kurosawa’s film works from the perspective of film narratology.The first part of this paper,analyzes the role of Akira Kurosawa’s refined and rich narrative language in promoting the effect of stylized narrative art.The depth-of-field lens,which plays a bonding role in the action chain of the characters,it participates in the film narrative,which shows the depth of the screen space and strengthens the sense of reality of the film.Surrealist elements expose the subconscious of the movie characters,and the non-realistic images bring strong visual impact.The modeling effect and lyricism effect of poetic color language.The film music that intensifies the narrative style of the film plays a role of rendering the atmosphere,lyricism and plot when it is combined with the picture to enhance the expressive force of the film image.The second part starts from the theory of narrative perspective,the narrative focus way in Akira Kurosawa’s films is divided into two categories: the first person’s internal focus narrative,The "it","it-he" and "he" zero-focalization.The films use the inner-focusing narration with the first person,the works are closely related to the audience,which is easy to drive the audience’s emotions and make the audience produce identity in psychological.The "it","it-he" and "he" zero-focalization,can objectively present the whole picture of the event,but will make the work and the viewer have a sense of separation.Different narrative focuses in the works show different style characteristics and aesthetic pursuit.The third part analyzes the narrative structure types of Akira Kurosawa’s films.This paper summarizes Kurosawa’s inheritance of linear narrative structure,breakthrough of linear narrative structure and innovation of narrative structure mode in film narration.Based on Kurosawa ’s thirty works,this chapter sums up eight typical narrative structure types of Kurosawa ’s films,which are Single clue sequence structure,causal linear structure,looping nested structure,fragmentation philosophical narrative,head and tail echo structure,causal linear structure combined with paragraph combination,the dendritic structure and a mosaic film narrative structure.Kurosawa tries to demonstrate narrative aesthetic effects of each structure type in the framework of different narrative structures such as linear,nonlinear and combinatorial narrative.The fourth part analyzes the narrative artistic value of Akira Kurosawa’s plot narration from its influence on the modern film narrative mode.In this chapter,a comparative study is made on two aspects: the local remake and adaptation of Akira Kurosawa’s works by directors in different periods and regions,and the extension of the classical looping structure in contemporary films.The plot narration in Akira Kurosawa’s films plays a role in promoting the plot structure,plot function and plot connotation.Akira Kurosawa’s expansion and innovation of film narrative structure,flexible transformation of narrative focus and excellent use of narrative language present a new face of Japanese films.Akira Kurosawa’s films have influenced countless filmmakers’ creative ideas,and have guiding significance for the innovation of modern film narrative mode and diversification of narrative style.At the same time,Akira Kurosawa’s plot narrative not only narrates events and shapes characters through plots,but also guides the viewers to think deeply about the theme of the film.The diversified narrative structure types in Akira Kurosawa’s films play an important role in the innovation of modern film structure types.
