The Research Of Lei Jun’s Shuowen Waibian

In the Qing dynasty,Lei Jun’s ShuoWen WaiBian is considered to be a collection of the great achievements of the predecessors’ studies of Shuowen,and a work of “compiling a book to become a giant viewer”.Taking ShuoWen WaiBian as the object of study,this paper makes a comprehensive description and analysis of the inter character relationship and the evolution of Chinese characters,so as to contribute to the study of Chinese characters and Shuowen.Chapter One in this paper discussing Lei Jun and ShuoWen WaiBian,and reviewing its arrangement and interpretation.This article introduces the current research status of Lei Jun’s ShuoWen WaiBian,and explains the research significance and research methods of topic selection.Chapter two discussing Lei’s extensively collected the words used in classics but not included in Shuowen,and examined the inter character relationship between the words in Shuowen and the words used in the literature.This chapter explains the basis of Lei’s distinguishing the inter character relations,and analyzes the inter character relations in the book of ShuoWen WaiBian,such as variant,phonetic loan characters,ancient and modern,normal and popular,and password and waste words.This paper discusses Lei’s concept of common words,analyzes the common words in Shuo Wen WaiBian,and explains the collection of common words of Lei.Chapter three analyzing the correction of Chinese characters in Lei Jun’s book from the perspective of glyph.Lei’s explanation of official changes,correction,omission and merging,and interpretation of characters,and discussion on the development and evolution of Chinese character glyph,and researching on the common phenomena of Chinese characters,the relationship between radical positions and physical structure,and the categorization of Chinese characters influenced by the context to clarify Lei’s research on Chinese characters.Chapter four summarizes the value and limitation of ShuoWen WaiBian.In terms of value,Lei’s research has certain reference value to the study of Chinese characters and the study of Shuowen.Lei extensively cited the materials of ancient books and stone inscriptions to communicate the words collected in the writings and the words used in the documents,which was convenient for the arrangement of ancient books and helpful for the interpretation of ancient documents.Lei’s Shuo Wen WaiBianalso has certain limitations.Lei’s confusion about phonetic loan characters,especially Lei’s mistakes in correcting the text,and errors in inter character relations,etc.,reflecting the limitations of Lei’s concept of words.Conclusion is sort out the research content of this article,make a brief summary on the basis of the research,and objectively evaluate the book Shuo Wen WaiBian.
