| MTI students with few practical experience are,more often than not,anxious in interpreting,which is reflected in their uneasiness,sweaty palms and translation delay,etc.,all of which,stand as an obstacle to interpreting delivery,and are detrimental to their normal performance.In recent years,the research on foreign language learning anxiety is increasingly enriched and varied,involving the relationship between anxiety and learning motivation,learning strategies,learning efficiency,and other relevant factors.As an interpretation major student,the author emphasizes on interpreting performance,exploring the impact of anxiety on interpreting performance of MTI students based on empirical research to enrich the study of interpreting anxiety.To clarify the existence of interpreting anxiety among first-year MTI students,the relationship between interpreting anxiety and students’ performance on interpretation class,and particular impacts on interpreting quality,the thesis selects 52 first-year MTI students as the research subjects,with the measurements of Chiang’s Interpretation Classroom Anxiety Scale and Yang Chengshu’s Interpretation Quality Evaluation Scale,and analyzes the data of questionnaire results,recording scores by SPSS to obtain the correlation between anxiety at different levels and interpreting performance,then draws the following conclusions: 1)Anxiety is prevalent among the first-year MTI students and is generally a little higher than medium;2)Higher anxiety(HA)has a strong negative correlation with and negative impacts on interpreting performance.Medium anxiety(MA)has a strong positive correlation with and plays a positive role in interpreting performance;3)Anxiety affects students’ language output,cognitive process and consecutive interpretation(CI)notes taking.Compared with previous studies,the thesis devotes more attention to the anxiety in interpretation class.After analyzing and summarizing the causes of the anxiety,the author suggests coping strategies for students under abnormal anxiety levels: students can relieve the interpreting anxiety by making enough preparation before interpreting class,complementing interdisciplinary knowledge,holding positive self-suggestion,and so on.The study is expected to inspire interpretation major students to improve the quality and efficiency of interpretation learning to bring more excellent interpreters to our society under the background of this further developing economic globalization. |
