This paper takes the modal verbs of Lu’an dialect as the research object,mainly uses descriptive and comparative methods to study several modal verbs of Lu’an dialect,and tries to highlight the language phenomenon with regional characteristics in Lu’an dialect.The paper is divided into five chapters:The introduction summarizes the research status of Mandarin and dialect modal verbs,introduces the geographical history and dialect overview of Lu’an City,explains the purpose,significance and methods of this study,the source of corpus and symbol description.The first chapter is about the definition and classification of modal verbs in Lu’an dialect.This chapter uses the method of combining syntactic standard and modal meaning to judge the modal verbs in Lu’an dialect,and delimits the scope of modal verbs in Lu’an dialect,mainly including“yinggai(应该)”“kending(肯定)”“yao(要)”“hui(会)”“neng(能)”“tan(谈~=)”“zhao(着)”“de(得)”“dai(带)”.The second to fifth chapter is the case study of modal verbs“zhao(着)”“de(得)”“dai(带)”and“tan(谈~=)”.This paper describes the modal semantics and grammatical features of the four modal verbs in different chapters,including sentence type selection and co-occurrence.It is found that the monosemantic modal verb“dai(带)”and the polysemantic modal verb“de(得)”“zhao(着)”“tan(谈~=)”appear in the verbal predicate sentences,“zhao(着)”only appears at the end of the sentence,“de(得)”“dai(带)”and“tan(谈~=)”have no such restrictions.At the same time,this paper makes a comparative study on the modal verbs in Lu’an dialect,including the comparison with the modal verbs inside the dialect,the comparison with the similar modal verbs in Putonghua and the comparison with the similar modal verbs in different dialects,and finds the similarities and differences in grammar,semantics and pragmatics between the modal verbs in different dialects.The conclusion summarizes the main content of the article,points out the innovation and shortcomings of this paper.
