Areport On The Subtitle C-E Translation Of Aerial China Ⅱ From The Perspective Of Multimodal Discourse Analysis

With the development of globalization,film works play an important role in cross-cultural communication.As a bridge of cross-cultural communication,subtitle translation is a significant way for Chinese culture to go global.The quality of subtitle translation has a direct impact on the spread of Chinese culture.Therefore,it is of great importance to carry out research on it.This thesis takes the English subtitle translation of the two episodes of the second season of Aerial China in 2019,Zhejiang and Sichuan,as a case study to explore the translation strategies of subtitle texts.The translation materials introduce the most representative aspects of Zhejiang and Sichuan like nature,history and social development.There are many names of scenic spots,culture-loaded words,four-character structures and poems in the subtitle,whose translation are restricted by time and space in the form.How to deal with the subtitle translation under the restraint of time and space is the difficulty in the translation process and also the focus of the thesis.This thesis applies the theory of multimodal discourse analysis of Professor Zhang Delu,to analyze some suitable translation methods and strategies for subtitle translation under the combination of auditory modality,visual modality and text modality.This thesis analyzes translation examples from four levels of the theory of the multimodal discourse analysis.At the cultural level,it analyzes the transliteration and literal translation of names of scenic spots transliteration,transliteration and liberal translation of culture-loaded words,literal translation andliberal translation of four-character structures.At the context level,it analyzes literal translation and liberal translation of quotation of poems,division and combination of long and difficult sentences.At the content level,it analyzes the conversion of part of speech,conversion of voice and conversion of word order.At the expression level,it analyzes the addition of subjects and omission of rhetoric sentences.Under the guidance of the theory of multimodal discourse analysis,this thesis concludes that it is necessary to consider the image,voice,animation and other factors except the subtitle itself during subtitle translation.This research can enrich the study of subtitle translation from a different perspective and and hope to provide some reference and inspiration for the translation of subtitle texts.
