In recent years, with the deepening of economic globalization, the constant standardization of the global trade market, the rapid development of the localization industry, there is an urgent need for employees with relevant competence. As an indispensable process in the localization engineering, the importance of localization translation has become increasingly prominent. However, the upgrading process of the domestic translation industry is very slow, and the number of companies providing technical services for the translation industry has the potential to increase. The training system of translation talents for localization is not mature, which makes the gap of talents providing translation services for localization industries larger. Therefore,it is also self-evident that the training of translation competence for localization is of great importance.Under this background, from the perspective of industry needs, based on the sociology of translation and localization engineering elements, this study elaborates on the latest trends and development of the localization industry. This study attempts to explore the following questions: 1)What are the characteristics of localization translation according to the needs of the localization industry? 2)What are the requirements for hired translators in the localization industry? 3)How to improve the training model of translators to meet the needs of the current localization industry? In order to solve the above problems, this study takes the localization industry as the starting point and studies the translation competence based on industry needs.Firstly,by reviewing the existing study results and the applicable theoretical framework,it is pointed out that as an empirical study method, localization translation studies provide a new paradigm for translation studies.Secondly, mainstream recruitment websites are selected to conduct a survey on their recruitment needs for localization translation positions, and the differences between the two are found by comparing and analyzing the translation competence model proposed by the PACTE group. Finally, through the integration of localization curriculum and teaching practice at home and abroad, this study provides a supplementary scheme for the existing training model oftranslators in domestic universities and the reference for the cultivation of translation talents for localization. The findings are as follows: 1)According to the needs of localization industries, localization translation has the characteristics of strong commercialization of purpose, with a higher technological level of content and a wide range of tasks.2)The localization industry requires translators to be familiar with localization technology and rules, localization processes, localization tools and visual translation technology, master practical skills of localization management to ensure the quality of localization.3)In terms of the current curriculum settings for the English major in China, most of them focus on training students’ language and translation skills, while paying less attention to the courses of translation technology and translation management. The curriculum of English majors should keep up with the trend of the times and enrich the content of translation courses. An ecosystem of interdisciplinary cooperation should be established to make the relevant modules complement each other. At the same time,it is necessary to promote the integration of production and learning, combining talent training with the talent demand of the market, which is more conducive to cultivating comprehensive talents in line with the development of the localization industry. As mentioned above, this study innovatively combines the sociology of translation with the needs of the localization industry, which has some implications for the future study of translation competence. The further development of this study is: 1)The scope of samples should be enlarged in case studies and different types of industries should be introduced in order to enhance the accuracy of statistical results.2)This study only compares and analyses the training model of translation talents from the perspective of localization industry needs.Further studies can be carried out to expand the study perspective and to explore translation competence in more disciplines and different fields.
