As a special video form,the documentary plays an important role in international cultural exchanges.However,most of these documentaries which spread Chinese culture are not translated into English and has limited target audience.If they are translated into English and used as external publicity materials to introduce Chinese culture to the world,their functional value will be further fulfilled.The author used the first and third episodes of the documentary “Crossroads: 2000 Years on the Silk Road” as the simulated consecutive interpreting materials in the hope of analyzing the application of the Interpretive Theory,improving her interpreting and making contribution to the translation of domestic documentaries.This report is mainly composed of four parts,which are task description,task process,case analysis and the summary of the task.The author explained the three steps of interpretation,which are understanding,deverbalization and re-expression,by the triangle model of Interpretive Theory.In addition,the author summed up the results of this task,the difficulties in the process of interpreting and summarized some translation methods according to the problems.Through this task,the author has gained a deeper understanding of the Interpretive Theory,accumulated valuable experience and improved the interpretation ability,and further understood the far-reaching significance of China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
