| Beneath a Burning Sky,written by Jenny Ashcroft,is a beautiful and gripping story of love,betrayal and mystery,set against the heat and intrigue of colonial Alexandria.It’s set in the 1800’s where women in this period were pretty much treated like property.It involves the representation of feminism in literary works.Jenny’s Beneath A Burning Sky and Island in the East were both e-book bestsellers,having a high level of literature value.This report consists of five parts: the first chapter introduced the background of this translation,including the information about the novel and its author,and the purpose and significance of this translation task,as well as the report framework.The second chapter explained the translation process.The third chapter discussed the difficulties in the translation of this novel’s name,special words and sentences.The fourth chapter focused on Chesterman’s translation memes theory,including the elaboration of the concept and evolution of translation memes,production translation strategies and relevant studies.The fifth chapter is the core and main body of this report:case analysis.This chapter focused on the analysis and application of the relevant concrete strategies.From the syntactic,semantic and pragmatic levels,it made a detailed analysis of the relevant cases in the translation of Beneath A Burning Sky(excerpt).The sixth chapter summarized the main findings,limitations and suggestions.This report proves that Chesterman’s production translation strategy plays a guiding role in the practice of English-Chinese translation,which is of great significance for other translators to use translation memes in novel translation. |
