Understanding Of AI Painting From Deleuze’s Persperctive

AI arts movement has been taken place for over half a century,it has been largely discussed in a doubtful sense within academics and few philosophers,yet there still isn’t any relevant theory responding to AI painting as a new art,this left AI arts still a myth to most people.The concept of most current AI paintings is based on a new developed algorithm names GAN which is trying to simulate human neuro network.GAN is consisted of two parts :generator and discriminator,which make it hard for the artist to control the outcome,meanwhile,this is also the specific feature which allows the artist to discover potential space of art in the algorithm itself.Images showed in these portraits are odd,vague and broken,which gives people a difficult time to appreciate or understand,which would remind us of Francis Bacon’s paintings of human bodies.The French philosopher Delueze has written about Bacon’s works to discuss the logic of sensation in art making.After learning about Delueze’s philosophy,I find he’s also telling the hidden concept of AI made painting in a philosophical perspective,Deleuze thinks art should explore the hidden strength in everything than simply do representation of the actual world,while AI painting is exploring both hidden strength of algorithm and portraits,this is where AI painting meets Deleuze.The first chapter is an introduction to this paper,a brief history of AI painting and review on Delueze’s philosophy concepts are introduced.The second chapter is talking about different types of AI paintings based on each different work process and a way of understanding the paintings from Deleuze’s perspective.The third chapter will be discussing the subjectivity of the art creators which leads to two different understandings from a general scientific perspective and Delueze’s perspective.The forth chapter brings out the concept of post-humanism,which is embedded in the highly developed technology world and its future,the main subject of this chapter is to discussdifferent understandings on the relationship between human body and internal spirit which is argued by philosophers since the ancient Greek era to modern time,the similarity between post-humanism’s idea and Decare’s idea on the relationship between human body and the internal spirit is found out,which is controverted from Meleau Ponty’s phenomenology.In the concluding chapter,the understanding of AI painting as a new art and the major concept of AI painting are both established.
