The translation of Chinese literature has become an important research topic in China in recent years. The present thesis takes Paper Republic,a well-known overseas platform of reading Chinese literature,as an example to discuss the translation strategies in foreign translators’translated texts and probes into the linguistic features from the perspective of corpus-based translation studies.Quantitative and text analysis are employed in the discussion of the translated texts.Quantitative analysis builds on corpus-based translation studies, observing the translation features on the lexical and syntactic levels. The quantitative analysis reveals the fact that the translations by foreign translators are simpler and more compact since foreign translators know better how to make the translation more readable and acceptable.Text analysis indicates that domestication is the main translation strategy in the translation of Chinese literature on Paper Republic because domestication makes the translation more readable and conforms to the reading habits of foreign readers. However, foreignization is occasionally used to preserve the cultural characteristics of Chinese literature. The text analysis also reveals foreign translators’ deficiencies on account of their insufficient knowledge of the profound Chinese culture as well as some insurmountable obstacles of the Chinese language.Over-interpretation and inadequate interpretation are sometimes unavoidable in the translated texts. The success of Paper Republic provides a significant reference for the translation of Chinese literature. The features of the translated texts and the translation strategies adopted in the translated texts are worth studying. In the process of Chinese literature going out, translators should learn from the success of Paper Republic to make the translation of Chinese literature more readable and more in line with the reading habits of foreign readers.
