| As China’s overall national strength and international influence have increased significantly,China’s development philosophy and culture have also received more and more attention from the international community.As a bridge to let the world know more about China in politics and culture,international publicity translation plays an important role in enhancing the national image and international influence.Meanwhile,earnest efforts should also be paid to enhance the quality of international publicity translation.Under the guidance of functional equivalence,the translation project aims to study the specific translation techniques in international publicity translation with the excerpted chapters in Historical References Cited by Chinese President Xi Jinping as the research object.The source text has strong political and literary characteristics.In order to convey the original information accurately,this paper chooses foreignization and domestication as translation strategies,and achieves functional equivalence in lexical,syntactic and discourse level through such translation techniques as annotation,omission and conversion.Functional equivalence is applied to the translation practice for three reasons: firstly,the theory gives first priority to the meaning,second to the form;the objective of the international publicity translation is to ensure the accurate and obstruction-free comprehension of the message,message comes first,then the form.Thus,it has strong applicability to this kind of translation.Secondly,it stresses the convey of message first,which helps the translator to avoid the ties of language structure and allows more space.Last,the theory emphasizes the response of the target reader,which conforms to the feature of effective communication of international publicity translation.This translation practice report mainly contains six chapters: the first chapter reveals the translation project.It involves the content and background as well as the significance of this translation project.The second chapter introduces the translation process.It is mainly divided into three stages: pre-translation,while-translation and proofreading.The third chapter analyzes the common characteristics of the international publicity translation and the features of the source text to provide the basis of the case study.The fourth chapter includes translation theory and its application in international publicity translation,as well as translation strategies like domestication and foreignization and some typical translation techniques.The fifth chapter is case study.Guided by the theory,the author analyses and summarizes the appropriate translation techniques for this project.The last chapter summarizes the report,including major findings and limitations,and provides recommendations for future research.This translation practice is guided by the functional equivalence theory.This thesis aims to summarize specific translation techniques in this international publicity translation text.The author hopes to provide some constructive advice to the future translators engaged in the international publicity translation under the guidance of the functional equivalence. |
