In recent years, the number of denominal verbs had increased and became a hot topic in language research. The main corpus of this paper was HSK six level vocabulary and this paper studied denominal verbs of modern Chinese according to BCC corpus and CCL corpus. Then this paper investigated the denominal verbs of ancient Chinese in the Book of Songs, and analyzed the similarities and differences between denominal verbs of modern Chinese and denominal verbs of ancient Chinese.Based on the comparative study of denominal verbs of Chinese,English,Korean,Vietnamese and Russian, this paper obtained the hierarchy and implicational universals of denominal verbs. After studying the main features of denominal verbs of modern Chinese and comparing them with those of ancient Chinese,English and other languages, this paper explored and solved the following three problems in second language acquisition: First, can learners understand denominal verbs of modern Chinese? Second, can learners distinguish the types of denominal verbs of modern Chinese? Third, can learners understand some denominal verbs of modern Chinese with metaphorical meanings? Based on the conclusion of noumenon and acquisition, this paper put forward some suggestions for syllabus, teaching materials and teaching,in order to help foreign students learn denominal verbs of modern Chinese. The paper was divided into six chapters:The first chapter was the introduction, which mainly introduced the purpose and significance of the research, the current research situation at home and abroad, summarizes the shortcomings of previous studies, the research object and the source of the corpus, and explained the research ideas and methods of this paper. The second chapter was the noumenon study of denominal verbs of modern Chinese.First of all,the rationality of the formation of denominal verbs was explained by "qualia structure" and "event coercion" of the generative lexicon theory, and then it was concluded that the causes of the formation of denominal verbs were "word poverty","labor-saving" and "accuracy".Denominal verbs of modern Chinese in HSK six level vocabulary were counted and according to the two conditions of "polysemy" and "ancient Chinese heritage",denominal verbs of modern Chinese were divided into frequently-used denominal verbs of modern Chinese and general denominal verbs of modern Chinese. Then we made statistics on the denominal verbs of ancient Chinese in the Book of Songs, and divided them into frequently-used denominal verbs of ancient Chinese and general denominal verbs of modern Chinese according to the two conditions of "inflexion" and polysemy. The third chapter was the language comparison of denominal verbs, which made a comparative study between modern Chinese and ancient Chinese and other languages. Then, the comparison showed that denominal verbs of modern Chinese inherited the usages of "polysemy"" of denominal verbs of ancient Chinese, however, they were no longer modified, but more developed into two syllables.Denominal verbs of modern Chinese can be divided into transitive and intransitive denominal verbs just like denominal verbs of ancient Chinese and the same syntactic structure can be obtained by using the theory of distributed morphology. The types of denominal verbs of modern Chinese were roughly the same as those in English, and they also had metaphorical mechanism. However, the number of denominal verbs of modern Chinese was far less than that of denominal verbs of English.Denominal verbs of modern Chinese no longer relied on "inflexion" to distinguish part of speech, while denominal verbs of modern English still used the "inflexion" form of stress shift to distinguish part of speech.Based on the comparative study of denominal verbs of Chinese,English,Korean,Vietnamese and Russian, this paper obtained the hierarchy of denominal verbs: source type = duration type < agent type< locatum type = location type = experiencer type = goal type < instrument type, and we also got three implicational universals of denominal verbs:(1)If a language has denominal verbs, there must be instrument denominal verbs;(2)if a language has agent denominal verbs, there are various common types of denominal verbs except duration type and source type;(3)If a language has duration and source denominal verbs, then this language has all types of denominal verbs.Implicational universals(1)and(2)play a major limiting role,while(3)exists only to reduce mistakes. The fourth chapter was the empirical study of acquisition. This chapter investigated the acceptance of denominal verbs of modern Chinese by means of questionnaires and interviews.According to six types of denominal verbs of modern Chinese and some special denominal verbs of modern Chinese,we designed 20 items to test the acceptability. We found that foreign students can understand some denominal verbs of modern Chinese with metaphorical meanings.Only senior class students can accurately distinguish some types of denominal verbs of modern Chinese, and foreign students generally accepted the special denominal verbs of modern Chinese. The students in the primary and intermediate classes had a lower acceptance of denominal verbs of modern Chinese, while the students in the senior class had a higher acceptance of denominal verbs of modern Chinese, which indicated that the students were influenced by the transfer of mother tongue and the complexity of calculation on the knowledge point of denominal verbs of modern Chinese. The order of learning denominal verbs of modern Chinese for foreign students should be: instrument type > experiencer type > locatum type > goal type > location type > agent type. The fifth chapter discussed the application of denominal verbs of modern Chinese in TCFL.First of all, this paper interpreted the national general curriculum for Chinese language teaching(Revised Version)and teaching materials developed by Hanban, and then put forward some suggestions from the syllabus, teaching materials and classroom teaching for foreign students. The compilation of syllabus and textbook should follow the principle of step-by-step.With the improvement of level, denominal verbs of modern Chinese should be added in time. When tagging the part of speech of words,it is better to mark the initial part of speech of the words. Some exercises can be added to the textbook to identify the word nature of denominal verbs of modern Chinese. When teaching, teachers should focus on the use of situational substitution, multimedia teaching, teaching and entertainment, stimulate the interest of foreign students in learning, and improve their cognitive ability of denominal verbs of modern Chinese. The sixth chapter was the conclusion part, which summarized the whole paper, drawn the conclusion of the research, pointed out the shortcomings of this paper, and put forward the direction of further research.
