Social exclusion exists widely in life, and many college students have also experienced exclusion.Due to immature physical and mental development of college students, they are susceptible to external influences,so they are prone to show up risk-taking behaviors such as smoking or drug addiction and so on.These risk-taking behaviors not only endanger their physical and mental health but also bring bad effects to school and society. The majority of the existing studies on social exclusion attached importance to many-to-one or one-to-one examples, which ignored the fact that individuals were often not excluded alone, and they were often excluded together with somebody else. Those who were excluded alone would be more affected than those who were excluded together with somebody else. Therefore, the purpose of this study aimed to examine the differences of college students’ risk-taking behavior between two groups, including the groups who were excluded alone and the groups who were excluded together with somebody else. This study was divided into three studies to investigate the impact of different social exclusion situations on college students’ risk-taking behavior. We designed the first study in order to investigate how social exclusion, the presence of companion and their interactions influenced college students’ risk-taking behavior. The results was revealed that there was no significant difference in college students’ risk-taking behavior between the social acceptance alone group and the social acceptance together with somebody else group. Therefore,we gave priority to social exclusion situation in the second study. And we took the implicit theories of personality into the second study at the same time.We designed the second study in order to investigate how social exclusion, implicit theories of personality and their interactions influenced college students’ risk-taking behavior. We also took the peer familiarity and needs of belong into the third research. We designed the third study in order to investigate how the peer familiarity, the need of belong and their interactions influenced college students’ risk-taking behavior under the condition that they were excluded together with somebody else.Three experiments were included in this study. We designed experiment 1 by 2×2two-factor test to investigate how social exclusion, the presence of companion and their interactions influenced college students’ risk-taking behavior. The results were showed that the social exclusion group would occur more risk-taking behaviors than the socialacceptance group. The group who were excluded alone would occur more risk-taking behaviors than the group who were excluded together with somebody else. There was a significant interaction between social exclusion and the presence of partner. We designed experiment 2 by 2×2 two-factor test to investigate how social exclusion, implicit theories of personality and their interactions influenced college students’ risk-taking behavior. The results were showed that the incremental theorist group would occur more risk-taking behaviors than the entity theorist group. There was a significant interaction between social exclusion and implicit theories of personality. The results were showed that the incremental theorist individual that who were excluded alone would occur most risk-taking behaviors, and the entity theorist individual that who were excluded together with somebody else would occur least risk-taking behaviors. We designed experiment 3 by 2×2 two-factor test to investigate how the peer familiarity, the need of belong and their interactions influenced college students’ risk-taking behavior under the condition that they were excluded together with somebody else. The results were showed that the unfamiliar group would occur more risk-taking behaviors than the familiar group. The individual with low need of belong would occur more risk-taking behaviors than the individual with high need of belong. There was a significant interaction between the peer familiarity and the need of belong. The results were showed that the low need of belong individuals who were excluded with unfamiliar partner would occur most risk-taking behaviors, and the high need of belong individuals who were excluded with familiar partner would occur least risk-taking behaviors. This study investigated the influence of social exclusion on college students’ risk-taking behavior, which enriched the theoretical research on social exclusion. The results of this study are conducive to the understand the phenomenon of social exclusion and its influence on risk-taking behavior in real life.
