English-Chinese Translation Strategies For Informative Text Based On Skopos Theory

This paper is a translation practice report,and the source text of the translation is The Pyramid of Game Design written by Nicholas Lovell,a famous American game designer,consultant and writer.Since 2008,he has worked with more than 50 game companies to guide them in how to make service games,especially in the field of free-to-play games.Lovell has written some articles and books about game design and his thoughts in the past,so the author can understand him well in game and other fields after reading them.This book popularizes the relevant knowledge of game and game design to professionals and enthusiasts with plain language and cutting-edge game-related content.In addition,he creatively uses pyramid structure to analyze game design and production.This report is based on the translation of the first two chapters of the book.These two chapters are well organized with clear point of view and vivid content,but there are still some difficulties and problems for the author in the process of translation.Among these problems,the author thinks that the translation of prepositions and compound sentences is the most complex ones.Therefore,starting from this point,the author discusses the translation of prepositions and compound sentences,and also makes some analysis of the translation of typical game names in this paper.There are five chapters in the main body of this practice report.The first chapter is task description,which explains the background,content and significance of the translation task.The second chapter is the procedure of the task.It narrates the translation procedure from three aspects: the preparation of translation,the process of translation and the proofreading after translation.The third chapter gives a theory summary,which introduces the theoretical basis of this translation practice report,namely text typology theory and skopos theory.The fourth chapter is the most important part of this report.It illustrates the application of the three rules of skopos theory as skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule in translation practice,and finds out the corresponding solutions.The fifth chapter is the summary.Through the translation practice,the author analyzes and summarizes how to deal with the translation of prepositions,compound sentences and game names when dealing with informative texts.
