| The theme of the mirror is remarkable in the works of Michel Tournier, often linked with inversion and perversion. In our studies on Le Roi des Aulnes,we seek to analyze the writing of Tournier,as well as his reflections on the reading and the existence of human being, based on the game of the mirror. We start with the analysis of the game of inversion of Tournier, compared with the game of the reversible mirror. We first deal with changing the meaning of the right and left, which means people’s left or right side. What interests us then is the indifferentiation of values, especially the uncertainty between the sacred and the profane, where the mixed language of Tournier plays an indispensable role. The inversion plays on the reversibility of meaning by emphasizing the proximity of opposites, while perversion is based on the mechanism of transformation, the starting point of which is the vision of the perverse character like a mirror disfiguring the object. The hero believes in his imagined destiny and makes his efforts to pursue it.He adopts the mimesis of coherence to build his world parallel to reality, but a perverse world. We study finally the process of perversion of references to reality. We first analyze the blurring of the border between the real and the imaginary, then Tournier’s reflections on the function of the historical facts mentioned and the mythical and religious references. All of this makes us reflect on the value system and the meaning of the text. |
