| English reading is the important way for students to get information and learn the language well.It is the main input mode for senior high school students’ language learning.The level of reading ability is also one of the main aspects of testing students’ language level.Therefore reading plays an important role in English learning.It is one of the important objectives of senior high school students’ English learning to master certain English reading strategies clearly proposed in the senior high school English curriculum standards.Previous studies prove that the use of reading strategies can not only affect reading rate,for example,reading volume,but also effectively improve the reading efficiency of learners.Therefore,teachers should pay attention to the cultivation of students’ reading strategic awareness,and train them to use reading strategies correctly.Although progress has been made in the field of reading strategy research at home and abroad,there are still many aspects worthy of study.As an effective way to solve the disconnection between teaching practice and theory,action research has been widely recognized by the educational circles.This research method encourages teachers as research participants to solve the practical problems in teaching,improve the quality of teaching,and promote their own professional development.The main research questions are as follows:(1)What are the problems found in students’ reading strategies use before action training?(2)What is the effect on promoting students’ use of reading strategies through the action training?(3)What is the effect of reading strategy training on students’ reading performance?In the action research,100 students from two senior one classes of a high school in Jiaozuo City,Henan Province are taken as the research objects.The research period is from August to December 2019,lasting for four months,with a total of 17 weeks of training.The action research adopts the methods of questionnaire,reading comprehension post test and student interview.In view of the lack of reading strategies of the research object,the corresponding reading strategy training plan is formulated,and the strategy training is carried out in combination with the teaching.The results show that: before the action research,students lack the use of some reading strategies,the data shows that social emotional strategies,metacognitive strategies and cognitive strategies are seldom used,and resource management strategies are more used;after the reading strategy training,questionnaire is used to investigate the effectiveness of the training on the use of strategies,and the results show that the training promotes students to use cognitive strategies frequently,which prove that the training is effective,and interviews also show that reading strategies can improve the use of students’ strategies.Through the correlation analysis betweenthe use of reading strategies after the training and the reading post test,it is found that the proficiency and the use of strategies are positively correlated,so it can be proved that the students’ English proficiency has been significantly improved after the action training of reading strategies.Finally,some suggestions are put forward for English reading learning. |
