As an essential part of English teaching,vocabulary teaching has been attached much importance.How to teach vocabulary effectively has become a long time concern,and the results are still controversial until now.Many researches have revealed that Focus on Form(FonF)is an effective method to teach vocabulary with a communicative environment.However,some studies have demonstrated the superiority of the Focus on Forms(FonFs).The present study aims to compare the effectiveness of FonF and FonFs on the receptive knowledge acquisition of vocabulary form and meaning.And aims to answer the following two research questions:(1)What are the different effects of FonF and FonFs on receptive knowledge acquisition of vocabulary form?(2)What are the different effects of FonF and FonFs on receptive knowledge acquisition of vocabulary meaning?The participants in the study were 152 students from 3 intact parallel classes of Grade One at a High School in Liaoning province.One class was selected as the pilot group for choosing the target items,and the other two classes were randomly assigned to be FonF group and FonFs group respectively.After the treatment,the immediate vocabulary post-test was conducted,and the delayed vocabulary post-test was implemented one week later.The results showed that FonFs was significantly effective than FonF on receptive knowledge acquisition of vocabulary form both in immediate and delayed post-tests;Although there was no significant difference between two groups on receptive knowledge acquisition of vocabulary meaning in immediate post-test,the students in FonF group performs a little better than those in FonFs group;in delayed post-test,the scores of FonF group were significantly higher than those in FonFs.
