This report is based on a consecutive interpreting the author did at Hebei University for a lecture delivered by Professor Liz from Oklahoma State University.The lecture contains several parts including the profile and school-running characteristics of Oklahoma State University,curriculum of the school of arts,teaching methods and classroom activity.To deal with the problems and difficulties encountered during the interpreting,the author chose the Interpretive Theory as theoretical guidance.The report consists of five parts: task description,task preparation,process description,case analysis and conclusion.The task description part mainly introduces the background information about this interpreting practice,such as how the author was assigned with this task,the requirements of the task.The second part mainly talks about how the author prepared for the task.It provides details about the process of information collection relating to arts and Oklahoma State University,and the author’s predictions about the specialized knowledge the lecturer may mention.Under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory established by French theorist Danica Seleskovitch,the author,also the interpreter of this lecture,mainly aimed at expressing meaning instead of being constrained by the language form.Background information was added and redundant expressions were deleted to make the sentences concise,clear and easy to understand.In process description,the author depicts the environment of the venue.Case analysis is the main body of this report,in which the author analyzes the difficulties in the interpreting task and the interpreting strategies she adopted.In the conclusion part,the author emphasizes the importance of task preparation in interpreting and the significance of interpreting strategies in dealing with emergencies during the task,and the author also pinpoints the role of encyclopedic knowledge and her mistakes in this interpreting practice.By doing so,the author hopes to enhance her interpreting competence and be better prepared to handle interpreting tasks of this kind.
