Task-based language teaching(TBLT),as an emerging approach,originating from 1980 s,with the principle of learning by doing,aims to improve students’ comprehensive language proficiency.After the publication of Curricular Standard for English in 2001 which strongly advocates TBLT,TBLT has been a focus in language teaching.Besides,because of the advantages of web and internet,the integration of the web and language teaching has been an tendency.Despite numerous studies on TBTL,there are many problems existing in the current studies.In light of such background,the current study is intended to explore the effects of TBLT assisted by the web on College English class.Specifically,it tries to answer the following three questions:1.What are the effects of TBLT assisted by the web on students’ four-aspect engagement?2.What are the effects of TBLT assisted by the web on students’ academic performance?3.What are the advantages and disadvantages of TBLT assisted by the web compared with traditional 3P language teaching?55 non-English majors from two classes are selected as the participants,one class as the experimental group where TBLT assisted by the web is applied while the other as the control group where the traditional 3P teaching model is applied.Both classes are taught with the same textbook----New Target College Integrated Course which was newly compiled by Hunan university.By using the independent samples t-test and paired samples t-test,results of post-test and interview show the following findings:1.TBLT assisted by the web can effectively activate students’ participation in behavioral,emotional and cognitive engagement.2.TBLT assisted by the web better facilitates students academic performance,particularly their listening and writing.3.TBLT assisted by the web can arose students’ interest in English learning,facilitates students’ communication skills and cooperative ability,enhances students comprehensive language proficiency and develop students’ learning autonomy.While it has some disadvantages,specifically,the individual difference makes it hard to bring satisfying impacts for each student;limited class time leave less time to fully carry out TBLT model.In light of the current problems existing the present study,the author suggests that in the practice of TBLT assisted by the web,tasks should be designed meaningfully;scaffolding and a more comprehensive assessment should be provided.A detailed instructional design as well as some suggestions for the future research are presented in the study as well.
