| This report is based on a simulative project of translating 2017 White Paper on Global AI and AI Talents,which fully demonstrates the development of global AI and AI talents and the current situation of China’s AI.The language is plain,and the expression is objective.The text contains many scientific and technological terms,and many multi-complex sentences.This translation project is to introduce China’s AI development to the world and help the author better apply translation theories and enhance her translation skills.Chinese is a parataxis language and has redundancy sometimes,while English is a hypotaxis one,and famed for brevity.Consequently,three types of the multi-complex sentences in the project are difficult to translate.1.Multi-complex sentences with implicit causal logic.2.Multi-complex sentences with transitional complex sentence.3.Long multi-complex sentences with complex hierarchical structures and information redundancy.To address these difficulties,various translation tactics are employed under the guidance of Nida’s functional equivalence theory.(1)As to implicit single and multiple causal logic,using an impersonal subject sentence and adding a conjunction are adopted correspondingly.(2)Regarding transitional complex sentence,an attributive clause is chosen for the sake of structural variety.(3)For long multi-complex sentences,division and combination are adopted for two or more hierarchical structures and information redundancy respectively.These translation tactics have solved the difficulties effectively and the author hopes that they will help other translators with such difficulties. |
