| This report is based on the interpreter’s simulated C-E consecutive interpreting of the“Comprehensive Mirror to Chinese History”.The interpreting of allusions is the biggest difficulty that the interpreter meets in the process of consecutive interpreting.Wang Li,a Chinese modern linguist, classifies allusions into Chinese idioms and literary quotations. In view of this, this report further divides the difficulties into two types.First,it is difficult to deliver the implied meanings quickly and accurately in interpreting Chinese idioms.Second,it is difficult to deal with the cultural background information properly in interpreting literary quotations.Danica Seleskovitch,a French translation theorist, proposed the Interpretive Theory in the 1970 s,which exerted an important influence on interpretation and its study. The Interpretive Theory regards interpretation as a dynamic process, which includes three stages:comprehension, deverbalization and reformulation.Based on the Interpretive Theory and the main difficulties encountered in this practice, the interpreter applies tactics such as simplification, amplification and paraphrasing when interpreting Chinese idioms and tactics like substitution, generalization and addition when interpreting literary quotations. With the application of above coping tactics, the interpreting quality is well improved.Under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory, this report has analyzed the difficulties in interpreting allusions and tentatively put forward some coping tactics, hoping to provide reference and inspiration for related interpretation and studies. |
