This is a report on the translation of Chapter 8 of The Law and Special Education, which is a legal textbook with the characteristic of legal texts, belonging to the category of informative text.Chapter 8 describes mandates and components of FAPE(free appropriate public education),related services,peer-reviewed research, major FAPE cases, placement decisions and methodology decisions.Guided by Newmark’ s Translation Theories, the author took Chapter 8 of The Law and Special Education as a study object and explored translation techniques through specific case analysis. The exploration focused on the translation of complex words and sentences.Complex words include legal terms, fuzzy language and subjects. In translating legal terms, the author determined their meanings by analyzing their context while the translation methods of equivalence and omitting were employed in translating fuzzy language. In terms of subject translation, the methods of subject retention and subject amplification were used.In translating sentences, the translation methods of linear translation and word-order adjustment were employed. In short,it is hoped that this translation practice report would provide some references for the legal textbook translation.
