| With the innovation of educational concepts and the progress of science and technology,the research of middle school English teaching has been deepened greatly and the research field has been broadened gradually.However,most studies are qualitative.Therefore,in order to fully understand the research process and hot spots in the field of middle school English teaching in China in recent years,this paper conducts a bibliometric and visual analysis study.On the basis of bibliometrics,this paper collects the relevant literature of middle school English teaching in CSSCI and core journals of CNKI from 2008 to 2018 and obtains 1156 data samples.This study draws knowledge maps by using CiteSpace,and analyses their publication time,carrier distribution,research authors,institutions and the relevant data such as hot spots and trend of cutting-edge.The findings are as follows: the research in this field has entered a stable stage of development,with 60-80 papers published annually in core journals in the past four years.The results are mainly concentrated in academic journals of education and university journals,while other types of journals,such as linguistics,psychology and sociology,are relatively few.The scholars with more articles are Liu Yongbing,Wu Xiaowei,Guo Yingjian,Wang Lina,etc.The institutions with more fruits are Northeast Normal University,Shanxi Normal University,Wenzhou University,Shanghai International Studies University,etc.Most are independent research with less cooperation.From keyword co-occurrence analysis and cluster analysis,it can be seen that the research hotspots in this field include new curriculum reform,comprehensive language usability,language knowledge,coping strategies,corpus,task-based teaching,etc.From the analysis of keyword timeline map and burst terms,it can be seen that the frontier research trends are key competency,pragmatic competence,mother tongue cultural awareness,reading teaching,strategy and so on,which have been widely discussed and advocated in recent years.CiteSpace has powerful functions in analyzing and interpreting development data of related disciplines.It is an excellent tool for researchers to analyze the research status and development trends in this field,which deserves the attention of foreign languageresearchers.This study will provide objective and reasonable references for further improvement of the theoretical system of middle school English teaching research.In addition,it enables researchers to better grasp the accuracy and value of topic selection and educators to guide the curriculum design with advanced concepts in the future. |
