Johannes Brahms(1833-1897)was a German composer of late romanticism in the 19 th century. It can be said that his works built a bridge between classicism and romanticism, and integrated the essence of classicism and romanticism. His unique creation style was unique under the prevailing trend of the title music at that time.He did not follow the current, but kept rigorous and philosophical artistic style, and became one of the unique representative composers of the romantic period.Brahms composed many musical genres in his lifetime.Violin was an important field in his creation, and violin concerto in D major was the only violin concerto he composed in his life. The violin concerto, along with three other famous violin concertos(Beethoven,Mendelssohn,Tchaikovsky),is known as the "four violin concertos." Although Brahms was in the romantic period,he pursued the music of the classical period with all his heart. However,he did not reject romanticism, but on the basis of the classical and added a lot of romantic creative techniques, from his own foundation to explore the way of expression of romantic music,so that his music at the same time perfect combination of classicism and romanticism. In this paper, the author makes a thorough study of the composer and his music creation background, music style and his own learning and actual performance skills through violin concerto in D major,so as to appreciate the ideological connotation and artistic style of this great composer and deeply understand his unique music style.I also hope that through this article, more scholars and players can deepen their understanding of Brahms' s music and perform them better.
