A Study On The Meaning Construction Of The Internet Buzzword Fo Xi X From The Perspective Of Ground-based Conceptual Blending Theory

Internet buzzwords are created by netizens in the Internet environment.They bear the mark of the times and reflect the politics,economy,culture and people's life in a certain period.At present,the studies on Internet buzzwords mainly focus on their semantic features,syntactic generation,pragmatic value,translation principle,social influence and the causes of popularity from the perspectives of semantics,pragmatics,cognitive linguistics and translation.But they rarely discuss the meaning construction of Internet buzzwords.Fo xi x is an individual case of Internet buzzwords.Previous study on fo xi x focuses on static description of its semantic meaning,and does not deeply analyze its meaning construction process.Meanwhile,there is not an independent and closed corpus to support its result.This paper combines qualitative research method and quantitative research method.Using 295 instances collected from Sina as the research objects,the thesis builds a closed corpus.With the ground of grounding,the thesis supplements the Conceptual Blending Theory with ground-based Conceptual Blending Theory,aiming to solve the following two problems:(1)What are the semantic meanings of the fo xi x construction?(2)How does ground-based Conceptual Blending Theory explain the meaning construction process of fo xi x?The thesis acquires two findings: in the first place,the thesis fully analyzes 295 examples of fo xi x in an closed corpus and summarizes the semantic meanings of fo xi x.The fo xi x construction has three main meanings,namely positive,neutral and negative meanings.Positive meaning includes praise and encourage.Neutral meaning is made up of describe and joke.And negative meaning means euphemistically satirize.Among them,praise has the largest number,about 30.8%.Describe owns the second largest number,taking up almost 23.7%.In addition,joke,euphemistically satirize and encourage occupy about 23.4%,19.7% and 2.4% respectively.In the second place,by ground-based Conceptual Blending Theory,this thesis makes an attempt to reveal the meaning construction process of fo xi x.Firstly,in the process of conceptual blending,the blending of fo xi x involves double-scope network.The two input spaces are fo xi space and x space.And x space is established by extracting the main information from a specific situation.Secondly,the generic space forms the abstract structure by highly summarizing and abstracting the elements which are jointly possessed by the two input spaces.The abstract structure is participants,evaluative content and subjective emotion.Thirdly,after cross-space mapping and selective projection,the emergent structure is obtained in the blended space through composition,completion and elaboration: evaluator(language user)+ evaluate + evaluated object(x)+ comment(words related to x).Finally,by analyzing a specific discourse situation,language user's subjective emotion is accomplished,which is positive,neutral or negative.Therefore,semantic meanings of fo xi x are acquired: evaluator makes positive,neutral or negative subjective evaluation of evaluated object.And meaning construction of fo xi x also realized.The research significance of this paper refers to the following aspects: first,this thesis studies the meaning construction process of fo xi x from the perspective of ground-based Conceptual Blending Theory,which is a new perspective or an attempt to study fo xi x.Second,as a case of Internet buzzwords,detailed explanation of the semantic meanings of fo xi x helps to improve people's understanding of this construction.
