A Report On The C-E Translation Of On The Necessity Of Establishing The Community Court In China

The translation of legal academic articles is an important platform for communication of the legal systems and legal culture between different countries.The construction and development of legal systems cannot be separated from mutual learning of legal documents,laws and regulations.The translation of legal academic articles is an important way for foreigners to know the legal system and the situation of the rule of law in China.However,relatively little research has been conducted in translating legal scholarly works.This report is aimed at exploring the language features and translation strategies of the legal academic article,filling the gap in this field,and providing some references for future translation of other legal academic articles.This report is based on the C-E translation of a legal academic article.Under the guidance of relevant translation theories and strategies,illustrated by the English translation of On the Necessity of Establishing the Community Court in China,through analyzing the text type and language features of the source text,the translator explored the application of text typology in translation of this legal academic article,studied the corresponding translation methods and strategies in detail.This report is divided into five parts.The first part is “Introduction”,expounding the background,significance and purpose of this report.The second part is “Theoretical Basis and Analysis of the Source Text”,introducing the guiding theories adopted in translation and previous studies on legal academic language,and analyzing the text type and language features of the source text.The third part is “Description of Translation Process”,briefing the preparatory work,while-translation process and post-translation quality control of this practice.The fourth part is “Translation Difficulties and Solutions”,giving a detailed discussion on difficulties in translation of the source text with typical cases,and summarizing the strategies and skills employed by the author.The fifth part is “Conclusion”,summing up the findings and limitations of this translation task.Through this practice,the author has achieved a better knowledge of the institution of the community court,gained an in-depth understanding of the language features of legal academic article,and explored how to translate Chinese legal academic text accurately and smoothly,especially translation of technical terms,complex sentences and symmetric structures,choice of modal verb as well as the cohesion of text.In practice,translators should flexibly and properly select translation methods according to specific contents and situations.It is hoped that this report may give some insight into later relevant translation practice.
