E-C Translation Report On Integrating Power Systems Across Borders(Excerpts)

Nowadays China initiates global energy internet for which power system across borders is essentially pivotal,but in view of that the nation is a late starter in the area,it is necessary to learn from the west who is advanced in electricity internet,which means the relevant translation is inevitable.The author takes the first three chapters of Integrating Power Systems across Borders published by International Energy Agency on June 4^th,2019 as the source text of the translation practice in an attempt to do her bit in that construction.Based on various linguistic functions,British translation theorist Peter Newmark subdivided texts into three categories,“expressive text”,“informative text”and“vocative text”.Newmark’s translation theory centres on communicative translation and semantic translation,with the former emphasizing the same feelings and reactions of the target text readers as the source text readers and the later both complete information and linguistic forms of the source text.With the linguistic function of conveying objective truth independent of language forms,the source text is defined as“informative text”by Newmark’s text typology theory.Newmark admitted communicative translation is more applicable to informative text than semantic translation and also recognized that the two theories can not be deemed separate from each other.Thus,the author takes communicative translation theory as the fundamental guidance and semantic translation as a supplementary to translate the source text,and explores suitable translation skills such as inversion and division from the perspective of lexicon and syntax with a view to providing some experience for the following work in this area.The whole translation report comprises five chapters including an introduction to the translation project,a description of translation process,the introduction to text typology theory and communicative translation and semantic translation,case analysis and conclusion of the project.The author finds from the translation practice that flexible wielding of Newmark’s translation theory and text typology theory has instructional significance both practically and theoretically.As for translation work,the lexical and syntactic levels can work as a good hitting-point.All of those would be used for reference for the similar kind of text.
