This survey report aims to find out whether students are satisfied with the MTI curriculum design of GDUFS and then corresponding suggestions will be given so as to improve its curriculum according to students’ feedback.Master of translation and interpreting(MTI)was established in 2007.Since then, the number of universities that offer such education has increased from the original 15 to 253 in2019.However,after more than ten years of development, the MTI program is still at the exploratory stage, and there is still much room for improvement. The curriculum is the core of the MTI program.Only with a reasonable curriculum design can we effectively cultivate high-level translation talents. The subjects of the survey are the 85 students from the translation major of Grade 2018 at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. The questionnaire is first designed by the investigator and then is distributed to the subjects online so as to find out whether students are satisfied with the various kinds of courses of the MTI program.Apart from questionnaires, interviews will be conducted with some students to have a better understanding of their views. Then, results of the survey will be shown and analyzed.Last but equally important, based on the survey results, suggestions will be put forward for future improvement of the MTI program. The results of the questionnaires demonstrate that some of the subjects find their interest in translation waned and are confused about their career choice. In terms of course satisfaction,computer-aided courses are considered helpful by most students. However, more than half of the subjects think the translation courses are too theoretical. The unreasonable time arrangement of some courses is a problem frequently mentioned by students. Many students hope that GDUFS can provide more practical opportunities such as internship to apply what they have learned into action.Suggestions are given based on students’ feedback on curriculum designs. For students, they should have a clear plan for MTI study and future career; For instructors, more personal feedback should be given to each student in terms of their homework;teachers shoulddifferentiate their teaching methods towards MTI and MA students and the former should be taught in a more market-oriented way;For GDUFS,a more reasonable time arrangement of the curriculum should be considered.Apart from that,it should offer more practical and market-oriented courses such as project management.Besides, the school can provide more internship opportunities or hold market-oriented seminars regularly to cultivate professionalism, such as inviting senior interpreters, translators,or outstanding alumni who have pursued a career in a different field to share their work experience for students.Last but not least,it should pay more attention to social needs and trend and at the same time collect feedback from students more frequently.
