This report is based on the translation of Work-life Balance for All,a European Union publication of best practice examples from EU member states in helping their citizens strike a balance between life and work.Since this topic is becoming increasingly popular among workers around the world, introducing successful practice from the developed world will help to shed light on the adoption of relevant policies in the emerging economies. In this project, the interpretive theory has guided the author through the translation process. This theory emphasizes that successful interpreting and translation should be based on one’s understanding of the original discourse as well as rephrasing in the target language.Since interpreters and translators must have a good command of at least two languages to be qualified for the job, their efforts, then, should be devoted to acquiring background knowledge, understanding the discourse, and achieving deverbalization.Though the interpretive theory is developed through practices in interpreting,it has also been applied to translation by many scholars. In this project,it has been of great use both in giving the translator the tool to better understand the document and in helping the translator to convey the meaning in the target language in a natural way. This report elaborates on the translation process under the guidance of this theory, points out its conducive role in the translation of practical texts, and sums up the experience gained through this project for the benefit of the author’s future improvement in translation.
