| As China ranks as the world’s second largest economy,both at home and abroad continue to pay attention to China’s image.A good national image is rooted in the development and improvement of the country’s overall national strength and depends on the shaping and dissemination of the media.Documentaries are considered to be a true record and vivid reproduction of the real world,and thus become a powerful way to shape and spread the image of the country.In recent years,co-production of documentaries with other countries has become a new attempt to spread the image of China.The documentary film "How China Works" produced by China and the United States has also caused a lot of response."How China Works" was filmed in cooperation with the Discovery Channel of America and China Wuzhou Communication Center.In the first quarter of 2015,it was broadcast on domestic TV stations such as Discovery Asia-Pacific TV Network and CCTV Record Channel,reaching more than 40 countries and regions in the Asia-Pacific region.Broadcasted through new media platforms such as Phoenix,Tencent,Youku,and more than 30 million hits on online platforms.The topic "Run China" on Weibo has read nearly 10 million and 23,000 discussions.It is considered to be a documentary with the same popularity as movies and TV shows.Broadcasted in the second season of "Operating China" in 2018,through the television channels in various regions Broadcast globally,and at the same time on domestic TV stations and new media platforms.This study will take "How China Works" as an example,and use the "Framework Three-Level Analysis" method of scholar Zang Guoren to explore the framework of the documentary "How China Works" using text analysis to construct the image of China? What kind of Chinese image has been constructed? I hope that it will enrich the research of documentary films,and give some inspiration to China in telling Chinese stories in international communication and shaping a real,three-dimensional and comprehensive Chinese image.The specific research content will be developedthrough the following five chapters: Chapter 1,combing the development of the Sino-US co-production documentary and the Chinese image constructed therein,and introducing the basic situation of "Run China";Chapter 2,analyzing from a high-level structure The main purpose of "How China Works";Chapter III,analyzing the narrative structure of "How China Works" from the middle-level structure;Chapter 4,analyzing the discourse of "How China Works" from the low-level structure;Chapter5,summarizing the construction of the documentary "How China Works" The image of China,and discuss how this has implications for Chinese documentaries going global.The study found that the Sino-US co-production documentary "How China Works" has constructed a Chinese image of rapid economic rise,rapid technological change,affluent and happy people,and cultural tolerance,and a relatively objective and multidimensional Chinese image.It is proposed that China should learn technology and accumulate experience in co-production projects,accurately position the national image,tell Chinese stories well,and truly realize the "self-plasticization" of Chinese image. |
